Polling hours are not in the law: the Elections Commission sets the voting day, the general closing time and the start of the count (Elections (General) Act 11/2008 s.43). 2023 round 1 ran 08:00-16:00 and round 2 08:00-17:00 (Commission press conference reported by RaajjeTV, raajje.mv/141962); the 2024 Majlis election ran 08:00-17:30 after the Commission extended the close by 1 h 30 min (announcement (IUL)38-AC/38/2024/253, elections.gov.mv/announcements/107), with the stations in India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia also closing at 12:30 UTC. pollsCloseUtc assumes 17:30 Maldives time (UTC+5, no DST) = 12:30 UTC, an ESTIMATE until the Commission announces the hours.
