Government. Days from polling to the Prime Minister's swearing-in: 2013 (5 May to 6 May, 1), 2018 (9 May to 10 May, 1), 2022 (19 Nov to 24 Nov, 5). 2022 from the Istana Negara statement as reported; 2013 and 2018 from press and Wikipedia, not checked against an official source. The appointment can follow as soon as seat declarations show who commands a majority. A government market needs a deadline beyond the longest precedent. Not before . Precedents: 1 and 1 and 5 days from polling day.

    precedent
Each polling station counts at the close and records it on Form 14; the returning officer tallies Forms 14 and 15 (postal votes) and 'dengan serta-merta selepas penjumlahan rasmi undi' declares the winner (Elections (Conduct of Elections) Regulations 1981 reg. 25D(7); spr.gov.my/perjalanan-pilihan-raya-umum). These seat declarations are the official result per seat and appear on the SPR dashboard. GE15 precedent (polls closed 18:00 MYT Sat 19 Nov 2022), from the validation times (MasaSah) in dashboard.spr.gov.my/api/v1/2022-02/keputusan, read 2 Oct 2026 (times taken as MYT): first seat 20:39 MYT, half of the 222 by 00:09 MYT, 200 by 02:26, 219 by 04:16 Sun 20 Nov; P.168 at 07:48 Sun; P.220 Baram (Sarawak) at 19:10 MYT Mon 21 Nov; P.017 Padang Serai, whose poll was postponed to 7 Dec 2022 after a candidate died, on 7 Dec. The window closes at the end of the second day after polling (23:59 MYT), covering the GE15 straggler; a postponed poll in one seat would fall outside it.
  2. Final result
    →
    precedent
Reg. 27, Elections (Conduct of Elections) Regulations 1981: after the declaration the returning officer endorses the writ and draws up a statement of the poll (Form 16); the SPR Secretary then 'hendaklah ... menyebabkan nama ahli yang dipilih berserta dengan penyata mengenai pengundian itu disiarkan dalam Warta'. No deadline is set. The gazette starts the 21-day election-petition period (Election Offences Act 1954 s. 38; spr.gov.my). Precedent: GE14 (polling 9 May 2018) results gazetted 28 May 2018, day 19 (EC statement, Malay Mail 29 May 2018); GE15 (19 Nov 2022) gazetted 14 Dec 2022, day 25 (EC secretary's statement, Bernama via Malay Mail 15 Dec 2022). Press reports of SPR statements; the gazette numbers were not located. The opening (day 10, 27 Feb 2028 MYT) is an ESTIMATED floor; the window closes at the end of 2 Apr 2028 MYT, day 45, nearly twice the longest precedent, to allow for a delayed seat. Parliament must be summoned within 120 days of the dissolution (art. 55(4); by 17 Apr 2028 on an automatic dissolution). Election petitions are optional and are not a confirmation step, so there is no court-validation stage.
  3. Government formed
    —
    precedent
Federal Constitution art. 43(2)(a): the Yang di-Pertuan Agong appoints as Prime Minister a member of the Dewan Rakyat 'who in his judgment is likely to command the confidence of the majority of the members'. No deadline, and no need to wait for the gazette or the first sitting: in 2022 the Palace announced the appointment under arts. 40(2)(a) and 43(2)(a) on 24 Nov, after a special Conference of Rulers meeting, and the Prime Minister was sworn in that day, five days after polling (Istana Negara statement as reported by NST and Bernama, 24 Nov 2022). No window: the earliest moment is set in the government block.
