Governo. Days from the first polling day to the Prime Minister's election by the new Parliament: 2022, 4 Jul to 9 Aug (36; ABC News 9 Aug 2022); 2017, 24 Jun to 2 Aug (39; ABC News 2 Aug 2017; polling period 24 Jun to 8 Jul 2017 from the Wikipedia 2017 article citing the Commission's archived dates page, not checked directly). In 2022 the Prime Minister was elected at Parliament's first meeting, before all writs were returned. A government market needs a deadline beyond the longest precedent, counted from the last polling day as well as the first. Não antes de . Precedentes: 36 e 39 dias após a votação.

There is no election-night count. Polling is staggered over two weeks (26 Jun to 9 Jul 2027, tentative schedule, The National 20 Feb 2026); ballot boxes go to district and provincial counting centres, where each electorate is counted by limited preferential vote until one candidate has an absolute majority; the returning officer then declares the member with the Electoral Commissioner's authorisation by signing and returning the writ (IFES Election FAQs, PNG 2022, 'How will election results be counted?'). Counts and declarations therefore arrive seat by seat. In 2022 the Commission published per-electorate first-preference and elimination counts at results.pngec.gov.pg (Wikipedia 2022 article citing archived copies of those pages). Window (ESTIMATE): from the close of the first polling day to the day before the scheduled return of writs. Not a national result.

The final result is the return of all 124 writs to the Governor-General. Tentative schedule: return of writs by 30 Jul 2027 (The National, 20 Feb 2026). Constitution s.105(2): the Head of State fixes the return date on the Commission's advice, and it has been moved in practice. Precedent 2022: writs were due 29 Jul 2022 (IFES FAQ); the Governor-General extended the return for all electorates to Friday 5 Aug 2022 (PINA, 3 Aug 2022, quoting the gazettal), and on 8 Aug 2022 the Electoral Commissioner extended it again to Friday 12 Aug 2022 with only 85 of 118 writs returned (The National, 'Return of writs extended, again', 8 Aug 2022); two Enga writs (Kandep, Wapenamanda) had been rejected by the Commissioner (PINA, 3 Aug 2022). The date the last 2022 writ was returned was not found (the Commission's results site is offline). Window, set LATE: opens on the scheduled return date (30 Jul 2027 PGT) and closes at the end of 30 Sep 2027 PGT, two months later, because 2022 overran by at least two weeks and still left seats outstanding. A failed election in an electorate can lead to a later supplementary election, which this window does not cover. Election petitions go to the National Court within 40 days of a declaration (Organic Law on National and Local-level Government Elections s.208, per IFES FAQ). They are not a confirmation step, so there is no court-validation stage. Polling dates are tentative.

    precedente
Constitution s.142(2): the Prime Minister is appointed by the Head of State, acting on a decision of the Parliament, at the first meeting of the Parliament after a general election. The Governor-General fixes that first meeting when setting the return of writs: in 2022 he fixed 10 am Tuesday 9 Aug 2022 (PINA, 3 Aug 2022), and Parliament elected the Prime Minister that day, unopposed (ABC News, 9 Aug 2022, which reports results for 105 of 118 MPs presented at that sitting, 13 seats still counting). The window opens with the scheduled return of writs (30 Jul 2027 PGT), since Parliament cannot meet before the writs are returned. Polling dates are tentative.
