Opening announced: Elections Act 112/2021 art. 91 ("Kjörfundi skal þó slíta eigi síðar en kl. 22 á kjördag") and art. 98 ("Talningu atkvæða má ekki hefja fyrr en eftir kl. 22 að kvöldi kjördags"); Iceland is on UTC all year, so 22:00 local = 22:00Z. Under art. 107 Landskjörstjórn itself announces the count result of a referendum once all constituency returning boards have reported. The close (end of Mon 31 Aug) is an ESTIMATE: the law sets no deadline for the count. Observed: Landskjörstjórn published its art. 107 notice on 30 Aug 2026 (island.is first-publish timestamp 14:29:39Z, read via the island.is content API); overnight constituency figures were carried by the press (RÚV, Euronews), not by the authority.
