    precedent
Polling hours are set in the CEC's election announcement (選舉公告, art. 34(1): it must state the polling day and opening and closing times and be issued 120 days before the term expires); not yet issued. Precedent: 2024 voting ran 08:00-16:00 CST (UTC+8, no daylight saving), so close is 08:00 UTC. Ballots are counted at each polling station straight after the close. 2024 precedent: the CEC election information centre had all 17,795 polling stations counted at about 21:57 CST on 13 Jan 2024, about 6 h after the close (CNA, 13 Jan 2024, cna.com.tw/news/aipl/202401130334.aspx). The window closes at 02:00 CST the next day, about 4 h past precedent. These are unofficial counts, not the CEC's determination of the result.

Presidential and Vice Presidential Election and Recall Act art. 34(1)6: '當選人名單,應於投票日後七日內公告' - the CEC announces the elected pair within 7 days after polling day; counted from the day after polling day (art. 5(2)), that is by 27 Jan 2028 on the tentative date. Precedent: on 19 Jan 2024 (day 6 after the 13 Jan vote) a CEC commission meeting 'reviewed and approved, then immediately announced' the 16th-term president and vice president-elect together with the 11th Legislative Yuan's elected members (CNA, 19 Jan 2024, cna.com.tw/news/aipl/202401190142.aspx; the CEC's own announcement sits on clarify.cec.gov.tw, which did not resolve on 2 Oct 2026). The opening (00:00 CST on day 3) is an ESTIMATED floor; the window closes at the end of day 9 CST, two days past the statutory deadline to allow for slippage. If the gap between the top two pairs is within 0.3% of valid votes, the runner-up may ask the Taiwan High Court within 7 days for a recount, to be completed within 40 days, after which the CEC re-determines the result within 7 days (art. 63-1); a tie means a re-vote within 30 days (art. 63). Election lawsuits (arts. 102, 104; Taiwan High Court, art. 110) are optional and do not confirm the result, so there is no court-validation stage. Single round: no runoff.

Same polling stations and hours as the presidential race (08:00-16:00 CST in 2024; close 08:00 UTC). The district (or indigenous) and party-list ballots are counted at each polling station after the close. 2024: CNA reported the full seat split at 23:05 CST on election night (cna.com.tw/news/aipl/202401130361.aspx), about 7 h after the close; no CEC completion time for the legislative count was found. The window end (04:00 CST next day) is an ESTIMATE. Unofficial counts, not the CEC's determination of the elected members.

Civil Servants Election and Recall Act art. 38(1)6: '當選人名單,應於投票日後七日內公告' - by 27 Jan 2028 on the tentative date (counted from the day after polling day, art. 5(2)). Precedent: 19 Jan 2024, day 6, the CEC commission meeting approved and announced the 11th Legislative Yuan's elected list together with the presidential result (CNA, 19 Jan 2024, cna.com.tw/news/aipl/202401190142.aspx). The opening (00:00 CST on day 3) is an ESTIMATED floor; the window closes at the end of day 9 CST, two days past the statutory deadline. Election and election-annulment lawsuits (arts. 118, 120) are optional and do not confirm the result: no court-validation stage. The new Legislative Yuan takes office when the current term ends (1 Feb 2028; the 11th Legislative Yuan reported for duty on 1 Feb 2024, Taiwan News, taiwannews.com.tw/ch/news/5088584). The premier is appointed by the President (Additional Articles art. 3) without an investiture vote, so no government stage is given.

Provenance: researcher agent 2026-10-02: Additional Articles of the Constitution arts. 2-4, Presidential and Vice Presidential Election and Recall Act (arts. 5, 34, 35, 63, 63-1, 65, 102-111) and Civil Servants Election and Recall Act (arts. 5, 38, 39) on law.moj.gov.tw; CEC menu and election database (web.cec.gov.tw, db.cec.gov.tw); CNA reports of 13 and 19 Jan 2024; Taiwan News 1 Feb 2024. DATE WORKING: the 11th Legislative Yuan took office 1 Feb 2024, so its four-year term ends 31 Jan 2028; Additional Articles art. 4 puts the election within the three months before that, and Civil Servants Election and Recall Act art. 39 requires voting to be completed 10 days before the term expires. Counting back as art. 5(2) does for 'X days before' deadlines (from the day before, then the day before the tenth day) gives Thursday 20 Jan 2028 as the latest lawful polling day (a looser reading gives 21 Jan). The presidential term ends 19 May 2028 (the next president takes office on the day the incumbent's term ends, art. 65; inauguration due 20 May 2028); art. 35 of the presidential act requires voting 30 days before that (about 19 Apr 2028), so a joint poll is bound by the legislative limit. Joint polling is CEC practice, not law: in 2024 both were held on Saturday 13 Jan (CNA, 13 Jan 2024), and earlier joint polls were also on January Saturdays (lead from Wikipedia, not checked against the CEC); the latest Saturday within the limit is 15 Jan 2028. Polling day is a public holiday by law (art. 5-1 of both acts). No CEC decision on the 2028 date was found on 2 Oct 2026 (cec.gov.tw news list and a web search). A dissolution of the Legislative Yuan (Additional Articles art. 2: election within 60 days) would bring the legislative election forward and separate it from the presidential one.
