    Polling day Wednesday 17 March 2027, the same day as the water board (waterschap) elections, which are not covered here. Kieswet art. F 1(1): nomination day is the Monday between 30 Jan and 5 Feb (1 Feb 2027); art. J 1(1): polling takes place on the 44th day after nomination (17 Mar 2027), confirmed by the Kiesraad calendar and agenda. Art. J 1(2): "De stemming vangt aan om zeven uur dertig en duurt tot eenentwintig uur" (07:30-21:00); 21:00 CET = 20:00 UTC. Polling-station committees count the votes immediately after the polls close (Kieswet art. N 1a-N 10, Kiesraad calendar). The Kiesraad publishes no preliminary result: on election night the media carry exit polls and quick counts that municipalities pass to the ANP news agency (Kiesraad, 'Bekendmaking uitslag'). The window closing at 12:00 CET on Thursday 18 Mar is an ESTIMATE of when those unofficial counts are substantially complete; it is not an official result. Seats: 41. Provinciewet art. 8(1) sets the size of Provinciale Staten by population (41 members for 400,001-500,000 inhabitants), counted on 1 January of the year before the election (art. 1(2)); CBS StatLine table 37230ned gives 459,249 inhabitants on 1 Jan 2026 (provisional figure), so the council keeps its 2023 size of 41. No official 2027 seat notice was found; this is derived, not announced.

    Each municipal electoral committee (gemeentelijk stembureau) determines the municipal totals in a public session on Thursday 18 or Friday 19 March (Kieswet art. Na 1 and Na 26-Na 31; Kiesraad calendar), and the mayor publishes the polling-station and municipal reports online by Monday 22 March, 10:00 CET (art. Na 33; Kiesraad calendar). In provinces with more than one electoral district a district returning office (hoofdstembureau) then totals its district in a closed session and publishes its report O 7 (art. O 4-O 10). These are official municipal counts, published by the municipalities, not the province's result; the central electoral committee can still order recounts (art. P 1-P 1g).

E 17) determines and announces the result and the seat allocation in a public session "zo spoedig mogelijk ... doch niet eerder dan de achtste dag nadat de stemming heeft plaatsgevonden" (art. P 20(1)-(2)): not before Thursday 25 March 2027. The Kiesraad calendar advises holding the session on Thursday afternoon 25 March after 12:00, notes Good Friday (26 Mar) and Easter (28-29 Mar), and has the outgoing Staten examine the credentials of those elected by Tuesday 30 March, before members step down on Wednesday 31 March (art. C 4(2)); the result must precede that. The committee publishes its report P 22 online without delay (art. P 23) and sends the digital results file to the Kiesraad, which adds it to verkiezingsuitslagen.nl.
