    precedent
Voting lasts 10 hours on a Friday and may be extended at the Minister of Interior's discretion (Presidential Electoral Law art. 20 and note 1); the official hours are not yet announced, so the close used is 18:00 IRST (UTC+3:30, Iran has no DST), 14:30 UTC, as scheduled in 2024. 2024 precedent: polls opened at 08:00 and were scheduled to close at 18:00 local (14:30 UTC) but were extended to midnight (20:30 UTC) (Al Jazeera, 5 Jul 2024, runoff). The Country Election Headquarters (Ministry of Interior) released running totals overnight; for the 28 Jun 2024 first round, the final numbers were announced at a Saturday 29 Jun press conference by the election HQ spokesman (Al Jazeera report published 07:07 UTC). The window closes at the end of Saturday local time to allow for extended voting and a slower count. Running totals are provisional and are not the Guardian Council-validated result. DATE (tentative, latest lawful date): the current term began with the Leader's authorisation (tanfiz) on 7 Mordad 1403 = Sun 28 Jul 2024 (speech dated 1403/05/07) and lasts four years (Constitution art. 114; Presidential Electoral Law art. 1), so it ends on 6 Mordad 1407 = Thu 27 Jul 2028. Art. 119 requires the election to be completed at least one month before, i.e. by 6 Tir 1407 = Mon 26 Jun 2028. Voting is on a Friday (law art. 20 note 2) and a second round follows on the next Friday (art. 117). The latest first-round Friday that leaves a possible runoff inside the limit is 27 Khordad 1407 = Fri 16 Jun 2028, runoff Fri 23 Jun 2028 (3 Tir 1407). If art. 119 were read to bind only the first round, Fri 23 Jun 2028 would be the latest first round. The Interior Ministry has floated holding the presidential and parliamentary elections together in May 2028 (Tasnim, 19 Sep 2026; a proposal, not law). Early elections: if the President dies, is dismissed or resigns, a new president must be elected within 50 days (Constitution art. 131), as on 28 Jun 2024; elections can be suspended in wartime (art. 68).

    precedent
Presidential Electoral Law art. 18: the Ministry of Interior announces the final result of the election through the mass media once the counts from inside and outside the country are in. The opening is midnight local on polling night (voting was extended to midnight in 2024); the window closes at the end of Monday local, two days past precedent, as an err-late margin. This count still awaits the Guardian Council's validation (next stage). If no candidate has an absolute majority, the second round is held the following Friday (Constitution art. 117).

    announced
Presidential Electoral Law art. 79: the Guardian Council notifies the Ministry of Interior of its final view on the election 'within one week and if necessary, at most within ten days after the receipt of the presidential election results', and the Ministry then announces the result to the public. Complaints may be filed with the Council within three days of polling day (art. 80 note 1). The window closes ten days after the end of the final-result window, end of day local. The Council then drafts the President's credentials for the Leader (art. 2), whose authorisation (tanfiz) starts the term (art. 1). For a first round that goes to a runoff, the Council's view on the first round in practice comes before the runoff campaign, which starts with the official announcement of the first-round result (art. 67). No 2024 date for the Council's decision was confirmed from a readable official source (shora-gc.ir unreachable).
