Government. Days from the last polling day to the Prime Minister's oath: 2024, 1 Jun to 9 Jun (8), per the President's Secretariat communique of 7 Jun 2024. Earlier cycles are not yet checked against official sources. A government market needs a deadline beyond the longest precedent. Not before . Precedents: 8 days from polling day.

  1. Exit poll
    →
    estimate
RPA 1951 s.126A(2)(a): the ECI bans exit polls from the start of polling on the first day 'till half an hour after closing of the poll in all the States and Union territories'. 2024: the ban ran to '6.30 PM on June 1,2024 (Saturday)' (ECI notification as relayed by the Goa Department of Information & Publicity, 5 Apr 2024, goa.gov.in/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/ECI-PROHIBITS.pdf); 2014: 'only after 6. 30 PM on 12th May 2014' (PIB relid 105039). That puts the close at 18:00 IST. ESTIMATE, because the last polling day is not set: media exit polls can appear from 18:30 IST (13:00 UTC) on the last polling day, at the earliest on the window start (12 May 2029) and at the latest on the window end (23 Jun 2029, to 21:00 IST). They are surveys, not a count.
  2. Election-night count
    →
    estimate
No count on polling night. All polling days share one counting day, set in the ECI's press note. Gap from last poll to counting: 2014, 12 May to 16 May (4 days; PIB relid 105069, counting 'from 8 a.m'); 2019, 19 May to 23 May (4 days; ECI/PN/23/2019 and PIB PRID 1568595); 2024, 1 Jun to Tue 4 Jun (3 days; ECI Press Note 16 Mar 2024; ECI/PN/114/2024 of 1 Jun 2024, elections24.eci.gov.in/docs/elDK4ogj4V.pdf). In 2024 counting began 'from 8 AM onwards' (All India Radio, 3 Jun 2024), and 'Results of all 543 Lok Sabha seats have been declared' by 11:44 IST on 5 Jun 2024 (newsonair.gov.in, 5 Jun 2024). Returning officers declare each seat under RPA s.66, and results.eci.gov.in shows trends and declarations as ROs enter them. ESTIMATE, because the last polling day is not set: the opening is 08:00 IST three days after the window start (15 May 2029), the shortest recent gap; the close is the end of Sun 1 Jul 2029 IST, eight days after the window end, to cover a counting day set later than in 2014-2024. Each RO declaration settles that seat; the House as a whole is settled only by the s.73 notification (final-result).
  3. Final result
    →
    estimate
RPA 1951 s.73: after all results are declared, the ECI notifies the names of the elected members in the Official Gazette, and on that notification the new House 'shall be deemed to be duly constituted'. The ECI's schedule names a 'date before which the election shall be completed' (s.30(e)): 6 Jun in 2024, two days after counting; 27 May in 2019, four days after counting (ECI/PN/23/2019). 2024: on 6 Jun 2024 at 16:30 IST the CEC and ECs gave the President 'A copy of the Notification issued by the Election Commission of India, in terms of Section 73' (President's Secretariat press communique, Rashtrapati Bhavan, 06.06.2024), five days after the last poll. ESTIMATE, because the last polling day is not set: the opening is the morning after the earliest possible counting day (16 May 2029); the close is the end of Sat 7 Jul 2029 IST, 14 days after the window end, which errs late. Election petitions go to the High Court within 45 days (s.81), but no court confirms the result, so there is no court-validation stage.
  4. Government formed
    → —
    estimate
The President appoints the Prime Minister and, on the PM's advice, the other ministers (Constitution art. 75(1)). The Council of Ministers is collectively responsible to the Lok Sabha (art. 75(3)). No statute sets a deadline. 2024: s.73 notification 6 Jun, then the President administered the oath to the Prime Minister and ministers 'on June 09, 2024 at 07:15 pm' (President's Secretariat press communique, 07.06.2024), eight days after the last poll. ESTIMATE: the opening is the morning after the earliest possible count (16 May 2029), since the last polling day is not set.
