EXPECTED, not a day. Const. art. 143: if no ticket wins an absolute majority of valid votes, 'se realizará una segunda vuelta electoral dentro de los siguientes cuarenta y cinco días'; Código art. 89 repeats the rule. In practice the 45 days have run from the proclamation of the first-round result: 2025 - proclaimed 12 Mar, runoff Sun 13 Apr 2025 (primicias.ec, 12 Mar 2025); 2021 - first round 7 Feb, results proclaimed 21 Feb, runoff Sun 11 Apr 2021 (baenegocios.com, 21 Feb 2021; expreso.ec, 18 Apr 2021). Both runoffs came 63 days after the first round. The first round itself is expected in Feb 2029 (see ecuador-general-2029), and the President is sworn in on 24 May (Código art. 91). Window 15 Mar-30 Apr 2029: ESTIMATE, from six weeks after the first round's earliest expected day (a quick proclamation allows an earlier runoff) to the end of April, the month of both precedents and late enough that the 2025 pace from runoff to proclamation (27 days) still ends before 24 May. Polling 07:00-17:00 in the national territory (Código arts. 115, 118): 17:00 on the mainland (UTC-5, no summer time) is 22:00 UTC; Galápagos (UTC-6) closes at 23:00 UTC; abroad polls close at 19:00 local. The CNE publishes provisional results from the first data (Código art. 127). ESTIMATE: from the mainland close on the window's first day to the end of the day after its last day, local. Provisional, not the official result.

Provincial and abroad scrutinies within ten days (Código art. 132); the CNE's national scrutiny hearing opens between day 3 and day 7 (art. 141) and approves the numerical results, which then open to appeal (art. 137). Precedents: 2025 - the CNE closed the national hearing for the 13 Apr runoff on Thu 24 Apr 2025, day 11 (vistazo.com, 24 Apr 2025); 2021 - the CNE approved the final report and proclaimed the numerical results of the 11 Apr runoff on 18 Apr 2021, day 7, after which appeals to the Tribunal Contencioso Electoral could be filed (expreso.ec, 18 Apr 2021). ESTIMATE: from day 3 after the window's first day to 14 days after its last day, local. Still open to appeal, not the final result.
  3. Final result

    estimate
The CNE proclaims the definitive result and adjudicates the office once no appeal is pending (Código arts. 137, 141); there is no subjective electoral appeal against the adjudication of a single-office or ticket election (art. 137). 2025 precedent: the CNE plenary proclaimed the definitive runoff result on Sat 10 May 2025, day 27, after the Tribunal Contencioso Electoral certified that no appeals were pending (expreso.ec, 10 May 2025). ESTIMATE, erring late: from day 7 after the window's first day to the end of 23 May 2029 (local), the day before the President is sworn in on 24 May (Código art. 91). The Tribunal Contencioso Electoral rules only on appeals, so there is no separate court stage.

Questions and answers

When is the Ecuador runoff 2029?
Polling day is expected Mar–Apr 2029. The day is not set yet: the law leaves it to the authority, and we show the period rather than guess a day. Held only if no presidential ticket wins an absolute majority of the valid votes in the first round, and not if the leading ticket has at least 40% of the valid votes and a lead of more than ten percentage points over the second (Const. art. 143; Código de la Democracia art. 89). The two most-voted tickets take part, within 45 days.
When will the final result of the President and Vice-President (runoff) race be official?
Expected between 2029-03-22T05:00:00Z and 2029-05-24T04:59:59Z (UTC), confidence estimate.
Where are the official President and Vice-President (runoff) results?
No single-election results page is recorded yet. The counting authority is National Electoral Council (https://www.cne.gob.ec/).
