    estimate
EXPECTED, not a day. The law sets no month or Sunday: Código art. 89 says only that elections are held 'cada cuatro años' for all these offices on the same day, and the CNE fixes polling day in its convocation, at least 120 days ahead (art. 85). The only fixed points are the end of the terms: the Assembly installs on 14 May and the President is sworn in on 24 May (art. 91; Const. art. 144), so the terms elected in 2025 end in May 2029. Window 1-28 Feb 2029 from precedent: the last two regular general elections voted on Sun 7 Feb 2021 and Sun 9 Feb 2025 (press: baenegocios.com 21 Feb 2021; primicias.ec 24 Feb 2025). No 2029 calendar or convocation exists; by the 2025 precedent the CNE opened that period about a year ahead. Early-election risk: the Assembly may remove the President, or the President may dissolve the Assembly, once in the first three years of the term (Const. arts. 130, 148; Código art. 87), which brings joint early elections for the rest of the terms; that power lapses in May 2028. Polling 07:00-17:00 in the national territory (Código arts. 115, 118): 17:00 on the mainland (UTC-5, no summer time) is 22:00 UTC; Galápagos (UTC-6) closes at 23:00 UTC; abroad polls close at 19:00 local. The CNE publishes provisional results and the images of the tally sheets from the first data, without interruption (Código art. 127). ESTIMATE: the window opens at the mainland close on the first day of the window and closes at the end of the day after the window's last day (local), when the provisional count has historically been nearly complete. Provisional, not the official result.
  2. Intermediate count
    →
    estimate
The scrutinies: provincial, district and abroad electoral boards start counting at 17:00 on polling day and finish within ten days from the next day, extendable by the CNE (Código art. 132); the CNE opens its national scrutiny hearing 'no antes de tres (3) días ni después de siete (7)' after polling day (art. 141) and approves the numerical results, which are then notified and open to appeal (art. 137). Precedents: 2025 - the CNE closed the national scrutiny hearing and approved the results of the 9 Feb vote on 24 Feb 2025, day 15 (primicias.ec, 24 Feb 2025); 2021 - the CNE proclaimed the results of the 7 Feb vote on 21 Feb 2021, day 14, opening the appeal period (baenegocios.com, 21 Feb 2021). ESTIMATE: from day 3 after the window's first day to 20 days after its last day, local time. Still subject to appeals to the Tribunal Contencioso Electoral, not the final result.
  3. Final result
    →
    estimate
The CNE proclaims the definitive first-round result once no administrative or judicial appeal is pending or all are settled (Código arts. 137, 141). 2025 precedent: the CNE plenary proclaimed the definitive first-round presidential results on Wed 12 Mar 2025, day 31 after the 9 Feb vote, after the Tribunal Contencioso Electoral had dealt with the appeals (primicias.ec, 12 Mar 2025). ESTIMATE, erring late: from day 14 after the window's first day (the 2021 pace, if no appeals are filed) to 45 days after its last day (end of 14 Apr 2029, local). If no ticket wins outright, the result names the two tickets for the runoff (Const. art. 143); see ecuador-general-2029-r2. The Tribunal Contencioso Electoral rules only on appeals and need not confirm the result, so there is no separate court stage.

Seats are adjudicated once no appeal is pending or all are settled (Código art. 137); the CNE proclaims the national and abroad members (art. 141) and the provincial electoral boards those of their provinces (art. 137); an appeal against a seat allocation lies to the Tribunal Contencioso Electoral within three days, on the arithmetic only. 2025 precedent: the CNE proclaimed the 15 national members on Mon 7 Apr 2025, day 57 after the 9 Feb vote, after appeals to the Tribunal Contencioso Electoral (primicias.ec, 7 Apr 2025). ESTIMATE, erring late: from day 14 after the window's first day to the end of 13 May 2029 (local), the day before the Assembly installs without convocation on 14 May (Código art. 91). No court must confirm the result, so there is no separate court stage. Seats: 151 in 2025 (primicias.ec, 7 Apr 2025); the provincial share follows the last census (Const. art. 118), so the number for 2029 is fixed only in the CNE's convocation.

Questions and answers

When is the Ecuador general election 2029?
Polling day is expected Feb 2029. The day is not set yet: the law leaves it to the authority, and we show the period rather than guess a day.
When will the final result of the President and Vice-President (first round) race be official?
Expected between 2029-02-15T05:00:00Z and 2029-04-15T04:59:59Z (UTC), confidence estimate.
When will the final result of the National Assembly race be official?
Expected between 2029-02-15T05:00:00Z and 2029-05-14T04:59:59Z (UTC), confidence estimate.
