Art. 31: the vote takes place 'quarante-cinq jours francs au plus et trente jours francs au moins avant la date de l'expiration du mandat'; art. 33 and Code L.63: on a Sunday. That allows 15 Feb to 2 Mar 2029 (a Friday), i.e. Sundays 18 or 25 Feb; 25 Feb 2029 (35 clear days before 2 Apr) is the LATEST lawful date. Precedent: 24 Feb 2019 for a term ending 2 Apr 2019. The decree fixing the date (L.63) and convening the voters at least 80 days before (LO.137, so by about 7 Dec 2028) is not yet published. Early-election risk: if the presidency falls vacant the vote is held 60 to 90 days after the Council records the vacancy (art. 31). Constitutional change risk: a revision of the Constitution (loi n° 18/2026, adopted by the National Assembly on 29 Jun 2026, amending among others arts. 29, 30, 31, 34 and 36) was declared contrary to the Constitution by the Conseil constitutionnel on 9 Jul 2026 (Décision n° 6/C/2026); its earlier advisory Décision n° 4/C/2026 of 13 May 2026 concerned the same draft.
