When will the final result of the Governor race be official?: Expected between 2026-11-17T15:00:00Z and 2026-12-02T05:59:59Z (UTC), confidence announced. State canvass: the State Board of Canvassers (Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General) "shall make the final canvass of national and state primary and general elections"; for general elections "the meeting shall be called not later than December 1 next following the election, except when the date falls on Sunday, then not later than the following day, and may recess from time to time until the canvass is completed" (K.S.A. 25-3206(a), (b)). The SoS 2026 calendar gives Tuesday 1 Dec 2026 as the "Last day for State Board of Canvassers to certify official results"; the window closes at the end of that day, Central time. It opens the day after the latest possible county canvass (16 Nov); that opening is an estimate. Precedent: in 2022 the Board was called to meet on 1 Dec 2022 "to certify the 2022 General Election" (SoS press release, 23 Nov 2022), and in 2024 it certified on 2 Dec 2024, the Monday after a Sunday 1 Dec (SoS press release, 3 Dec 2024). Recounts are held only on request: a candidate files with the Secretary of State "not later than 5 p.m. on the day following the last meeting of the county board of canvassers", and the recount must be completed by 5 p.m. on the fifth day after the request; in a general election the state bears the cost when the candidate lost by 1/2 of 1% or less of the votes cast (K.S.A. 25-3107(c), (d)).
