DATE WORKING: Electoral Code art. 12(1) puts a regular Seimas election on the second Sunday of October of the year in which the sitting MPs' powers end. The Seimas elected in 2024 first sat in November 2024 (Constitution arts. 55 and 59: four-year powers counted from the first sitting), so its powers end in 2028; the second Sunday of October 2028 is 8 Oct (1 Oct 2028 is a Sunday). Not yet decreed: the President must announce the election no later than 6 months before the MPs' powers end (art. 12(1)). An early election by a 3/5 Seimas vote or a presidential decree (Constitution art. 58, Code art. 13) would replace this date. POLLS: 07:00-20:00 local (Code art. 139(2)); 8 Oct 2028 is on EEST (UTC+3; summer time ends 29 Oct 2028), so the close is 17:00 UTC. PRECEDENT: 2024 (13 Oct), the VRK announced shortly before 05:00 EEST on 14 Oct that it had counted all 1,947 polling districts (15min live report, entry 05:03, 14 Oct 2024).
